Hope you enjoy the show Scoob. Give us an update when you get the chance on how the con was. I wouldn't mind hearing about some of the non Clive stuff too.

So...How was Nightbreed? I'm dying to know, guys. I keep hitting Scoob's blog but he still hasn't updated. In the middle of a massive write-up I hope! Sounds like the con planning could have been a lot better.

oh sorry, i haven't written it yet. i have 4 pages of notes that i wrote but i've been so crazy busy since i got back that i haven't written the story yet. i was kind of hoping that people would start commenting and asking where the nightbreed story was. i was trying to build up some excitement. i guess i failed miserably haha. ok, just for you, i will start writing out the good copy tomorrow. i may just finish it tomorrow, too. at the absolute latest, 2 days tho. it's a promise.

in good news tho, mr b did remember me, or at least it seemed that way. ashley laurence most definitel remembered me. doug bradley was saying hi to me as he was walking around. simon bamford may be one of the nicest people i have met in my life, and he's very funny. i got a very cool signed limited 1st edition of imajica for a very nice price, #300 something out of 500. got my one sheet of midnight meat train signed plus my other first editions i took along and my limited edition hellraiser graphic novel from graffiti press signed by both artists and now clive, too. the LE tapping the vein is now signed. it was fun. the people in attendance made it all worth while. HH really dropped the ball on the convention, but the people were great. i mostly hung out and talked with the horror hosts. maybe one of these days i will get to meet some of you at one of these conventions some time. i was really hoping to buy a piece of artwork but unfortunately there wasn't the original work up for sale like it was out in L.A. that was kind of a bummer but there will hopefully be a next time. clive barker has got to be one of the greatest guys in the world. he is genuinely a very nice, kind soul. i wish i had the opportunity to see him and talk with him a bit more like some of you on here do. you are truly blessed to be able to do that, honestly. not saying that he is "better" than anyone else, just a very genuine, caring individual. it was a great time. if i get to do it again, hopefully the next time will be even better Smile

Thanks for the event write-up. I always enjoy hearing how things went even if I couldn't go.

Take your time on the Nightbreed story, Scoob, and don't spare the details. We must know everything about this cut! Very Happy

i took quite some time. i started the story last night. i didn't include any of the gripes i had with HH and their shoddy conventionship. Didn't want that to detract from all of the important information about Nightbreed. The story that I had in mind from the beginning is now up and running complete with what clive had to say about it before he was distracted by other questions and on to other things. i never did get called on to ask my question about john vilenti but in lieu of that i asked doug bradly and simon when i saw them. please, feel free to comment, i would very much love to hear your impressions and it might encourage others tto comment also.
thank you very much for the boot in the rear to get the article up david.

Your latest blog post got me choked up man, Good job. Good job.

The whole bit about Valenti and Barker... was very surprising to say the least.

Good job, Scoob! The column raises some interesting points.

I knew that Jack Valenti said that comment to Clive but not that he was actually on the set. Power mad bastards in the MPAA back then, no? I've thought that the 'Breed would fare better these days because we've seen the mutants and outsiders be the heroes in films like X-Men 2, Hellboy and Avatar, and I've been shocked at what makes it into an R rated movie these days. Then again, if Nightbreed was made today, it would be more of a PG-13 fantasy movie because they'd never give 20 million bucks and free reign to a horror guy like Clive. They let him make it back then but chickened out and wouldn't let Clive show his vision to the world. Hard to say which way is worse...

Anyway, could you give a couple of insights on the end of Nightbreed, Scoob? Like how does the story with Detective Joyce and Babbette come together on film? And does Decker's mask speak to him throughout the movie? I've got to think the final reel has a lot more impact with just having the violence restored. Oh, and how was Doug Bradley's voice work? I've always wondered how the real Lylesberg sounded!

it's a workprint, so there are no special fx or sound added in and it has that number countdown thing running across the bottom. i guess that's what's used to put the scenes in where they go. there is a whole lot more violence. decker's mask DOES talk to him ( a point in the original not included that always bugged me, ) now whether or not fx would be added in as to give the mask a voice, i dunno, i imagine so, but cronenberg was having conversations with the mask on the print. at one point there is a scene where he is talking to boone and pleading with him, to lure him in of coarse, trying to get boone to let his guard down, telling him, almost crying, that "the mask makes me do it. it tells me what to do" there are more scenes with more nightbreed. the love story is more flushed out between boone and lori. it runs over and hour and a half out of which clive wants to use 45 minutes.
doug bradley just sounds like doug bradley on the print since no fx are on it. in fact, all the breed sound like the actors, themselves.

let me crack out the notes

in a nutshell

the print is 1.5 hours. it's in great quality
More Decker. including multiple scenes of the mask talking to him
the scene with the beheading of Narcisse
more footage of the Berserkers
lori stabs herself on the hilltop
the priest does murder the sheriff, in a much more gruesome way and he goes into detail about hunting down Cabal in the finale.
The final 3rd of the film is where most of the cut footage takes place. some that you can see probably won't be used. the armory and on from there a all out war is going on and looks to change the entire dynamic behind the film.

that's about it. it really does round out all the questions anyone may have ever had and perfectly sets itself up for the next movie

Thanks for all the info, Scoob. I really wish I could have been there to see it for myself, but this'll have to do until I'm able to purchase the director's cut on Blu-ray!

Scoob if I got this right, are you going to do another blog post describing more in detail how the movie goes?

Just wondering if you're going to do another write up about watching the Nightbreed Workprint or not, Scoob? Or are the notes you posted pretty much it? No pressure, just wondering.
